A variable frequency drive is an electronic device that allows you to start, stop, and control the speed of a three phase motor. It is also a motor starter as it is equipped with overload protection. Read more »
What is the difference between a 'new surplus' motor and a 'factory new' motor?
Our New Surplus electric motors and drives are new and unused overstock or discontinued items offered at lower prices and come with our 90-day warranty.
Factory New products are competitively priced and come with a manufacturers warranty.
Variable frequency drives (VFDs or inverters) now play an important part in major industry.
Within the last 10 years they have been perfected to control and vary the speed of 3 phase electric motors. They serve many purposes, besides speed control. Homeowners and hobbyist alike, who have lathes or milling machines with a 3 phase motor, usually don't have 3 phase power to operate. These VFDs (instead of using a rotary phase converter) can now be used to convert single phase power to 3 phase power. Read more »

Description
Presenting a whole new electrical and mechanical design, the new platform of Rolled Steel motors are made to run cooler, last longer and to be easier to install and maintain. The Premium Efficiency motors meet or exceed all NEMA Premium requirements for energy efficiency. These TEFC motors are designed for operating in environments of dirt, dust and moisture, on indoor and outdoor applications. Design "B" torques and energy efficient designs from 143/5T through 254/6T frames. These motors are specifically designed to provide maximum ventilation and heat dissipation.
Features that make a difference
New ventilation system for improved thermal performance
Robust feet design suitable for tougher applications (frames 182/4T and up)
New and more robust eyebolts design (frames 182/4T and up) plus an additional eyebolt on non-drive end allowing vertical shaft down lifting for frames 213/5T and 254/6T
Oversized diagonally split aluminum terminal box that exceeds IP55 requirements and is rotatable in 90 degrees increments for flexibility during installation
Option for internal AEGIS® SGR
Color coded/numbered leads as standard for easy wiring
Regreasable ball bearings on 254/6T frame as standard (optional for 182/4T and 213/5T)
Bearing cap as standard on flanged motors, optional on non-flanged
IP55 Ingress Protection as standard, being appropriate for severe environments
Motor frame painting system resistant to a minimum of 500 hours ASTM B117 salt spray test
Suitable for VFD operation as per NEMA MG1 part 31.4.4.2
