Variable frequency drives (VFDs or inverters) now play an important part in major industry.
Within the last 10 years they have been perfected to control and vary the speed of 3 phase electric motors. They serve many purposes, besides speed control. Homeowners and hobbyist alike, who have lathes or milling machines with a 3 phase motor, usually don't have 3 phase power to operate. Teco Drive Replacement Cross-Reference
Teco-Westinghouse has retired its older VFD families: the N3 is replaced by the E510, the MA7200 by the A510 (general purpose, constant torque) and F510 (fan & pump, variable torque) — with the MA7200 NEMA 4 models replaced by the E510 NEMA 4X line — the EV (JNEV) and FM50 micro drives by the L510, and the EQ5 by the EQ7. Choose A510 for general purpose / constant torque loads (conveyors, mixers, machinery). Choose F510 for fan & pump / variable torque loads. F510 starts at 5 HP — for 1–3 HP use the A510.
