Within the last 10 years they have been perfected to control and vary the speed of 3 phase electric motors. They serve many purposes, besides speed control. Homeowners and hobbyist alike, who have lathes or milling machines with a 3 phase motor, usually don't have 3 phase power to operate. We have a few brand new N3-403 drives where the keypads were removed and used elsewhere. You will need to supply your own keypad to operate these since they will not operate without the keypads. We are selling them for users that are replacing a bad drive but still have a good keypad. If you have an extra N3 keypad on hand these are a super bargain!
