Variable frequency drives (VFDs or inverters) now play an important part in major industry.
Within the last 10 years they have been perfected to control and vary the speed of 3 phase electric motors. They serve many purposes, besides speed control. Homeowners and hobbyist alike, who have lathes or milling machines with a 3 phase motor, usually don't have 3 phase power to operate. These VFDs (instead of using a rotary phase converter) can now be used to convert single phase power to 3 phase power. Read more »
Note: Per the Spinmaster VFD manual, these 1.5 HP drives require a 35 amp circuit breaker and 10 AWG wiring. They should not be used with a standard 20 amp house wiring and outlets! Please ensure that you have the correct wiring or consult with an electrician before ordering.

200.00 vfd; easy setup (read the manual 3x and let it sink in), September 17, 2018 By Anonymous (San DIego, CA)(Verified)
Bought this to power a big 3hp 3ph Baldor pedestal grinder on a 120v 15amp circuit (yes, I saw it recommends a 30 amp circuit)...Used conservative settings and works well so far. Ramps up nice, smooth, and quiet. Very elegant solution to power a 3 phase motor on 120v outlet. Grinds/sharpens fine. 200.00 is an excellent price. Will order more.
